Un approccio molto semplice alle linee e allo stile, ma con la costante fissa di essere cool. A volte capita di vedere per strada, spesso magari più nel nord Europa, ragazze che con abiti e accessori minimal riescano ad avere quel tocco di freschezza indefinita. INDRESS è la sintesi di tutto ciò racchiusa in un brand di moda. Partendo già dal sito infatti si ha subito la percezione di una via parallela allo stile, una serie di video che narrano il mondo del marchio, donando una location e una storia ai loro outfit, volti che esprimono una filosofia ben precisa. Qui si respirano odori, si ascoltano suoni che affondano radici in un immaginario trasversale, un approccio laterale a ciò che è fashion, passando con storie inedite a racconti di spezzoni di vita; qualche tratto preso da un film lo dimostra: “What’s your name?” “Luna…” “Are you from the moon?” film definiti come Indress Serial Drama, il titolo esprime la struttura sperimentale nel metodo seppur minimale nello stile. Un auto product placement di alto livello, che imprime le storie della collezione nello styling delle attrici, intrecciandoli nella struttura narrativa del girato. Ma anche gli scatti fotografici non sono da meno, gli abiti si prestano benissimo ad interpretazioni di mondi reali rivisti nella bidimensione, in cui i cartonati danno la sensazione spaziale del posto e aggiungono poesia ai vestiti. INDRESS ha creato un mondo ben preciso, propone le sue collezioni con fare semplice ma sofisticato per suggerire che oltre al vestito c’è molto di più, c’è esperienza, creatività e poesia.
Breve intervista a Wies Schulte:
M: Da dove deriva il nome del tuo marchio? Ha una connotazione precisa?
INDRESS:Indress non ha un significato preciso, aveva un suono che mi piaceva e la cosa che più amo è disegnare vestiti, da qui il nome.
M: Hai presentato delle linee molto contemporanee, con un gusto molto internazionale nello styling: da dove trai ispirazione? Segui anche lo styling dei tuoi lookbook?
INDRESS: L’ispirazione deriva da grandi fotografi come Mitch Epstein, Alec Soth and William Egglestone, per quanto riguarda i colori e il mood. Le forme sono sempre eleganti e contemporanee, io penso a quello che vorrei indossare quando creo un vestito, li realizzo per me stessa, la collezione è creata partendo da me. Mi piace lavorare con tessuti molto semplici, ma di grande qualità. Più che altro seta, cotone o lana, tinti con accurate scelte cromatiche. Sono io che creo lo styling delle mie foto e dei film. M: Quando pensi alle persone che indosseranno i tuoi capi, hai un’idea precisa di stile? Trai ispirazione da qualche icona?
INDRESS: Non ho icone precise, però mi piace l’eleganza di Romy Schneider.
M: La collezione mostra capi con uno stile minimale, è uno stile tratto da esperienze passate?
INDRESS: Sicuramente gli studi ad Antwerp mi hanno influenzato in qualche modo. Ma è sempre molto personale. Per me l’essenziale è già troppo!!
M: Come definiresti la tua collezione se dovessi paragonarla ad uno stato d’animo?
INDRESS: Felicità. Io amo il mio lavoro.
M: Quali sono i materiali che preferisci per i tuoi pezzi? C’è un materiale che ami in modo particolare e che meglio si sposa con i tuoi capi?
INDRESS: Lavoro molto con la seta crêpe e rasi. Questi tessuti sono perfetti per realizzare vestiti e top molto femminili. Sono perfetti da tingere. Tutti i miei tessuti sono tinti in un piccolo atelier francese.
M: Cosa ti ha spinto a fare moda? Un momento? Una persona?
INDRESS: Ho cominciato da giovane a lavorare a maglia e a cucire i miei vestiti. Gli abiti da sera di mia madre con le loro spille in fiori di seta mi hanno ispirato molto, ricordo perfettamente i tessuti, colori e forme.
M: Come ti definiresti se dovessi paragonarti ad uno stile?
INDRESS: Chic, elegante ma cool.
M: Quali sono i capi che preferisci disegnare?
INDRESS: I vestiti
M: Dove sono realizzate le tue collezioni? Segui sempre la produzione? Qual’è l’aspetto più importante per te nel processo sartoriale?
INDRESS: Tutti i vestiti in seta sono realizzati a Niort, una piccola città francese, in un’azienda con cui collaboro da otto anni. La seta invece è tinta vicino Lyon in Francia. Ci conosciamo molto bene, Vado personalmente ogni stagione per controllare la produzione. Anche la maglieria è da dieci anni che è realizzata in Francia. Tutti gli accessori realizzati in seta sono creati in un atelier parigino.
INDRESS. A very cinematographic collection
A very simple approach to lines and style with a cool constant factor. It may sometime happen to meet girls wearing minimal dresses and accessories – more often in the European northern Countries – with a touch of indefinite freshness. INDRESS is the synthesis of all this, contained in a fashion brand. Starting from the website, the perception of a way parallel to style is immediately evident, a series of video showing the universe of the brand, giving a location and a story to their outfits, faces express a well-defined philosophy. Here you can smell scents, you can listen to sounds that are rooted in a transversal imaginary world, a kind of secondary approach to what is fashion, passing with unpublished stories to the narration of life fragments; this is proven by some short extracts from a film: “What’s your name?” “Luna…” “Are you from the moon?” these films are defined “Indress Serial Drama”, the title expresses the method’s experimental structure, yet featuring a minimal style. A top-notch self product placement, which is able to impress the stories of the collection in the actors’ styling, combining them with the narration structure of the video. Shots keep up with the mood, the pieces of clothing are suitable for interpretations of real worlds seen in the bi-dimension, where cardboard elements confer the spatial perception of places and add poetry to the garments. INDRESS has created a defined world, proposing its collections in a simple and yet sophisticated manner to suggest that there is much more beyond clothes, there are experience, creativity and poetry.
Brief interview to Wies Schulte:
M: How did you get the idea of the brand name? Which is its connotation?
INDRESS: Indress has not really a sense, a meaning… INDRESS has a good sound and I particulary love to design dresses.
M: You present very contemporary lines, they feature an international taste in styling: where do you get your inspiration from as far as design is concerned? Do you also follow the styling for the photos of the outfits of your collections?
INDRESS: My inspiration comes from american photographers as Mitch Epstein, Alec Soth and William Egglestone, what concerns colors and ambiance. The shapes are always élégant and contemporary, I make clothes what I would like to wear, I make them for myself, the collection is made on me. I love to work with simple but beautifull qualities of fabrics. Mostly Silk, Cotton or wool, dyed in sharp and précise Colors. I do all the styling of my photos and films. M: When you think about the people who will wear your creations, do you have a definite idea of style? Do you draw your inspiration from an icon?
INDRESS: I do not have icons. But I love the élégance of Romy Schneider.
M: The collection features minimal pieces, did you absorb the inspiration also from your past experiences?
INDRESS: My studies in Antwerp has for sure something to do with that. But it is also very personal. For me, less is more!!
M: How would you define our collection if you had to compare it to a mood?
INDRESS: Happiness. I love my job.
M: Which are your favourite materials for your pieces? Is there a fabric you particularly love and that best fits your lines?
INDRESS: I work a lot with silk crêpe and satin fabrics. These fabrics are perfect to make very féminin tops and dresses. These fabrics are perfect to dye. All my fabrics are dyed in a small French atelier.
M: What did you lead to fashion? A moment? A person?
INDRESS: I started vert young to knit and sew my own clothes. My mother’s eveningdresses with the silk flowerbrooches inspired me a lot, I remember very well their fabric, color and shape…
M: How would you define yourself if you had to compare to a style?
INDRESS: Chic, elegant but cool.
M: Are there any pieces you most easily design?
INDRESS: Dresses
M: Where are your pieces made? Do you also follow their production? What is the most significant aspect of the tailor work for you?
INDRESS: All the silk dresses are made in Niort, a small French town, in a factory with who I work since 8 years. The silk is dyed near Lyon in France. We know each other well, I go there myself every season to check the production quality. The knitwear is also made in France since 10 years in the same place. All the handmade silk accessories are manufactured in a parisian atelier.
