CAR ON AIR
Curioso titolo che distrae la nostra immaginazione con l’inganno di una macchina che vola in cielo, ma che è, invece, solo il gioco di un acronimo per proporre assieme il lavoro di Andrea Carpita, Claudio Onorato e Guido Airoldi. Sono i tre giovani autori di arte contemporanea della galleria Anfiteatro Arte Milano che hanno presentato le loro opere per la prima volta a White June in una mostra curata da Mattia Munari.

A strange title which can distract our imagination with the tricky idea of a car floating in the sky, but indeed its only an acronym in order to get together the art work of Andrea Carpita, Claudio Onorato and Guido Airoldi. Three young contemporary artists from the Anfiteatro Arte Milano Gallery that presented their works for the first time at White Giugno. The Anfiteatro Arte Milano Gallery, today is run by Mattia Munari.

Claudio Onorato
Claudio Onorato (1967) è nato a Milano dove vive e lavora. Architetto di formazione lavora da più di un ventennio nel mondo dell’arte spaziando tra pittura, scultura e installazione. Le sue opere sono spesso ispirate alla sua vita quotidiana o a fatti di cronaca che hanno particolarmente attirato la sua attenzione. Il risultato può apparire come un racconto incantato, racchiuso tra favola e gioco, a volte invece dietro questa semplice apparenza troviamo riflessioni taglienti su politica e sociale. Dal 2000 in poi il suo lavoro si è concentrato sul ritaglio della carta. Un’abile alternanza di vuoti e pieni è diventata la sua principale cifra stilistica. Nel 2009 gli viene assegnato il Premio Libero Ferretti alla IX edizione del premio, Dove abita l’utopia, con mostra al Museo della Permanente di Milano. Nel 2011 il Comune di Lecce e l’Università del Salento gli dedicano una personale, Mirabilis Mundus, a cura di Chiara Cinelli, nelle sale del Castello di Carlo V. Inizia a collaborare con Anfiteatro Arte a Milano a ottobre del 2009 con la personale Zecca Clandestina a cura di Mattia Munari. Dopo la mostra di Lecce attualmente è in corso di preparazione una personale presso Anfiteatro Arte di Padova. E’ la prima volta che un artista presentato a Milano tra gli emergenti ottiene il riconoscimento di una mostra personale a Padova dove sono stati presentati sempre e solo artisti storicizzati (tra questi: Piero Dorazio, Mimmo Rotella, Enrico Baj, Mario Schifano, Claudio Olivieri).

Claudio Onorato (1967) was born in Milan, where he still lives and works. He trained as an architect and he’s been working for more than twenty years in the field of art, from painting to sculpture to graphic installation. His works are often inspired by his own daily life or by world news that particularly draw his attention. The result may seem an enchanted tale, between a fairy tale and a game. Instead, sometimes this simple appearance hides sharp reflections about politics and social matters. Since 2000, his work has been focussing on tracing paper. A clever alternation of empty and full spaces has become his main distinguishing mark. In 2009, he was assigned the award Premio Libero Ferretti during its 9th edition “Dove abita l’utopia”, with an exhibition at the Museo della Permanente in Milan. In 2011, the Municipality of Lecce and the Università del Salento dedicated a solo exhibition to him called “Mirabilis Mundus”, arranged by Chiara Cinelli, in the rooms of the Castle of Charles V. He started collaborating with Anfiteatro Arte in Milan in October 2009 with the solo exhibition “Zecca Clandestina” arranged by Mattia Munari. After the exhibition held in Lecce, Italy, a solo exhibition is currently being prepared at the Anfiteatro Arte in Padua. It is the first time that an emerging artist launched in Milan obtains the acknowledgment of a solo exhibition in Padua, where only historicized artists have always been present (among them: Piero Dorazio, Mimmo Rotella, Enrico Baj, Mario Schifano and Claudio Olivieri).

Guido Airoldi
Guido Airoldi (1977) è nato a Bergamo e vive e lavora tra Bergamo e Verona. Diplomato al liceo artistico statale di Bergamo nel 1996 si laurea all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera di Milano nel 2002. La sua attività artistica è orientata verso la pittura, il collage e la performance, con una particolare attenzione al recupero di immagini preesistenti. Airoildi è stato finalista di The 4th Intenational Arte Laguna Art Prize, esponendo nei prestigiosi spazi dell’Arsenale di Venezia. Qui ha vinto i premi Catch by the Eye, Save in the Heart e Koller Gallery Special Prize, ottendendo la possibilità di esporre a Budapest e a Londra. Il Comune di Lecce e l’Univeristà del Salento hanno organizzato la personale Circus Lupiensis, a cura di Carolina Lio, presso le sale del Castello di Carlo V nel 2011. Inizia a lavorare con Anfiteatro Arte dopo l’esposizione Archiviarti presso la Fabbrica Borroni di Bollate, dove viene notato il suo lavoro. E’ stato presentato ad Artfirst Arte Fiera di Bologna nel 2011 da Anfiteatro Arte mettendo a confronto il suo lavoro con l’opera storica di Mimmo Rotella. “La sua ricerca visivamente leggera e semplice si sviluppa su delle carte dove compare solo la forma di un animale senza contesto, appena circondata da una sottile cornice bianca oppure isolata e racchiusa in una teca di plexiglas.
Sono opere talmente dirette che a prima vista possono persino sembrare illustrative, ma che sono invece lo sviluppo di profonde, elaborate ed originali riflessioni intellettuali e, soprattutto, umane. L’artista pulisce il più possibile il suo lavoro perché è il suo mondo interiore ad essere pulito, e dà alla luce delle opere ordinate, minimali, silenziose, quasi asettiche nella loro perfetta calibratura.
Qui i suoi soggetti vengono protetti in una dimensione curativa e catartica che ha un che sia di medico che di eroico. Le immagini che compongono le sue opere sono, infatti, state tolte dal chiasso della strada e dall’usura del tempo, sono ritagliate, re-incollate su una carta bianca e pura e poi medicate nelle loro parti mancanti con lievi e discreti interventi pittorici. In definitiva, questi animali – o meglio le loro rappresentazioni – sono stati salvati, e svolgono nell’opera un periodo di convalescenza infinita, accompagnati dalla sigla AR (Animale Recuperato) e da un vecchio timbro della USL.” Carolina Lio

Guido Airoldi (1977) was born in Bergamo; he lives and works between Bergamo and Verona. He got a diploma at the state “Liceo” specializing in art subjects in Bergamo in 1996, and took a degree at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera, Milan in 2002. His artistic activity mainly focuses on painting, collage and performance, with special attention to the recovery of existing images. Airoildi was a finalist at The 4th International Arte Laguna Art Prize, with an exhibition in the prestigious areas of the Arsenale in Venice. There, he won the awards Catch by the Eye, Save in the Heart and Koller Gallery Special Prize, thus being allowed to exhibit in Budapest and London. The Municipality of Lecce and the Università del Salento organised the solo exhibition “Circus Lupiensis”, arranged by Carolina Lio, at the rooms of the Castle of Charles V in 2011. He started to work with Anfiteatro Arte after the Archiviarti exhibition at Fabbrica Borroni in Bollate, where his works stood out. He was launched at Artfirst Arte Fiera in Bologna in 2011 by Anfiteatro Arte; his style has been compared to Mimmo Rotella’s works. “His visually simple and light research is developed on paper, where only the shape of an animal is represented without a context, slightly surrounded by a thin white frame or isolated and enclosed in a Plexiglas casket.
This works are so direct that, at first sight, can even seem illustrative, but instead, they are the development of deep, structured and original intellectual and, most of all, human reflections. The artist perfects his work as much as possible because it is his personal way to be perfect, and generates neat, minimal, silent works, which are almost aseptic in their perfect calibration. Here, his characters are protected in a curative and cathartic dimension that has something medical and heroic in itself. The images that form his works, indeed, have been removed from the noise of the street and from the wear and tear of time; they have been cut and re-pasted onto white and pure paper, and then the missing parts are treated with light and e discrete pictorial traits. After all, these animals – or better, their portrayals – were saved and are, within the work, an endless convalescence period, accompanied by the AR abbreviation (Recovered Animal) and by an old stamp of the local health authority USL.” Carolina Lio

Andrea Carpita
Andrea Carpita (1988) è nato a La Spezia e vive e lavora a Ortonovo (SP). Frequenta l’Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara presso la cattedra del professor Omar Galliani e Fabio Sciortino. La sua poetica trae ispirazione dalla cultura giapponese, in particolare dall’iconografia ukyo-e (immagini del mondo fluttuante). I luoghi e gli abitanti che dipinge arrivano dal nostro inconscio. La natura domina la scena e si diffonde senza freni e senza leggi, contagiando con la vita tutto e tutti.
Ancora ventiduenne viene scoperto da Mattia Munari che capito il talento gli dedica una personale (Sulla cima di un monte appeso alle nuvole) dal 2 dicembre 2010 al 15 gennaio 2011 presso Anfiteatro Arte a Milano. Vengono praticamente vendute tutte le opere ancor prima dell’inaugurazione. In seguito espone ad Artfirst Arte Fiera, Bologna 2011 con 4 opere di piccolo formato partecipando al Premio under 30 del Gruppo Euromobil. Fortunamente non vince il premio acquisto, così che le opere possono essere vendute in fiera ai collezionisti. Tra questi: Raphaelle Blanga, art director di Sotheby’s, modern and contemporary art, Claudia Quittenbaum, modern expert for Quittembaum Auction House di Monaco. Per la prima volta nella storia della galleria viene istituita una lista d’attesa per poter acquistare un giovane artista. In questo periodo si interessa al suo lavoro Il critico e curatore milanese Ivan Quaroni. Altre opere di Carpita sono presentate successivamente all’Affordable Art Fair di Milano, destando l’interesse di un pubblico sempre più vasto ed eterogeneo. Dal 7 al 10 aprile 2011 espone la mostra personale Lacustre, su invito di Ivan Quaroni, nei prestigiosi spazi progettati da Renzo Piano presso la sede del Sole 24Ore a Milano (fiera Arte Accessibile Milano).Attualmente sta preparando due personali, una prevista per settembre 2011 proprio a La Spezia, sua città natale. La mostra sarà realizzata per Spezia Expò, dal 16 al 19 settembre 2001. L’altra mostra in corso di preparazione è “Omaggio a Hokusai”, a cura di Ivan Quaroni.

Andrea Carpita (1988) was born in La Spezia; now, he lives and works in Ortonovo (SP). He attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara, at the chair of Professor Omar Galliani and Fabio Sciortino. His poetics is inspired by the Japanese culture, especially by the ukiyo-e iconography (pictures of the floating world). The places and the inhabitants painted by him reach our unconscious. Nature dominates the scene, and spreads without restraints and without laws, thus infusing life in everybody and everything.
While being still 21 y.o., he was discovered by Mattia Munari, who understood his talent and dedicated a solo exhibition to him (“Sulla cima di un monte appeso alle nuvole”) from December 2nd, 2010 to January 15th, 2011 at the Anfiteatro Arte in Milan. Almost all works were sold even before the opening. After that, he exhibited at Artfirst Arte Fiera, Bologna 2011 with 4 small works and participated in the award Premio under 30 of the Euromobil Group. Luckily, he did not win the purchase award, so the works could be sold at the fair to the collectors. Among them: Raphaelle Blanga, art director for Sotheby’s, modern and contemporary art, Claudia Quittenbaum, modern expert for Quittembaum Auction House in Munich. For the first time in the history of the gallery, a waiting list was arranged to purchase the works by a young artist. In that period, his work drew the attention of the critic and editor from Milan Ivan Quaroni. Other works by Carpita will be introduced afterwards at the Affordable Art Fair in Milan, awakening the interest of an audience that is increasingly large and heterogeneous. From April 7th to 10th, 2011 he had a solo exhibition “Lacustre”, at Ivan Quaroni’s invitation, within the prestigious areas designed by Renzo Piano at the headquarters of the Sole 24Ore magazine in Milan (Arte Accessibile fair in Milan). Currently, he is preparing two solo exhibitions: one will be held in September 2011 in La Spezia, his hometown. The exhibition will be part of Spezia Expò, September 16th-19th, 2001. The other exhibition being prepared is “Omaggio a Hokusai”, arranged by Ivan Quaroni.
